Winter Indoor Gardening Ideas, Part 2

Hello! Thanks for stopping by.
With spring fast approaching now, I'd like to add a few last ideas about how I ride out my winter "blues".

There are many combinations of terrarium plants you can raise and care for all year 'round. We keep this one on the kitchen table in a spot where it gets lots of indirect sunlight. Too much sun will cause the terrarium  glass to be fogged up and also create so much condensation that mold and other problems will doom the plants to an early death. It requires little care. An occasional trimming when the plants get "leggy", about  a pint of water every two or three weeks depending on the size of the terrarium, and a feeding included with a watering every two months will keep your plants bright and happy!

We also have a few hanging baskets to care for. The one shown is in a window with only indirect light on the north side of our house. The plants are pothos which require little care except for occasional feeding and trimming back old leaves or length of vines.

http://yougrowgirl.com/ is one of the gardening sites I frequent, not just in the winter, but all year 'round. Gayla Trail created the site about ten years ago. She considers herself a "guerrilla" gardener - starting urban plots and beds on vacant lots and other abandoned areas in her hometown of Toronto. The site has a wide ranging question and answer boards where members pose questions about gardening and other members provide answers from their knowledge of the particular plant, pest, vegetable, etc.. I've been known to answer questions there.

Finally, reading about other gardener's experiences provides entertainment and enlightenment. GreenPrints is a quarterly magazine with a subscription price of $22.97 (USD). Stories range from the practical, to whimsical, to sad and humorous. Stories are generally in the area of 1500 words, so it's not a major investment in my time but provides insights and maybe a good laugh on a cold, gray winter day.

I'll be back soon & hope you pay a visit then!
